Ottawa Walking Tour Festival May 1, 3, 4

If you like to get outside and you’re enthusiastic about learning about the city you live in, come along on a free neighbourhood walking tour with Jane’s Walk Ottawa on May 3 and 4!

The weekend-long festival of free walking tours is held to celebrate the work of urban thinker Jane Jacobs, who promoted livable cities, street-life vitality and attractive, uplifting places where people feel safe.

With walks that offer insights into local history, planning, design, and civic engagement, there is a walk for everyone.

A typical Jane’s Walk Ottawa tour is given once during the weekend, takes about an hour, and covers around one to two kilometres.
The festival of walking tours kicks off with a night of storytelling for the 2014 Jane’s Talk on Thursday, May 1.
The theme for the event is "Neighbourhood Narratives" and it will take place at Arts Court, 2 Daly Ave., starting at 7 p.m.
CBC's Adrian Harewood will host the event.

Construction activity / Activités de construction

Construction activity increase in spring and summer

Ottawa – The spring and summer months will see an increase in construction-related activity across the city – including an unprecedented $51-million investment towards the road surfacing program.

The planned road resurfacing work will prepare roadways for increased traffic flow stemming from the Confederation Line construction. It is also timely in strategically addressing the large incidents of potholes on Ottawa roadways.

As part of the Confederation Line construction, the widening of Highway 417 will be ongoing over the spring and summer months.

Ottawa residents will also see some results of the city’s transformation, with the expected fall completion of the Strandherd-Armstrong Bridge project and the Hunt Club extension project.

The City of Ottawa has tools on to help motorists and transit users plan their routes and manage their commute, including:
·         Travel Planner at – transit users can chart and plan routes
·         City of Ottawa Traffic Report – outlining city-wide road closures, traffic restrictions and detours
·         Interactive traffic map – showing construction areas and live traffic cams throughout the city
·         Ottawa Nav – now with new enhancements and features. Blackberry version will be ready soon.
·         Ministry of Transportation of Ontario (MTO) cameras along Highway 417
·         Cycling maps and information – detailing bicycle pathways and lanes throughout the city

·         le Planificateur de trajet à - permet aux usagers du transport en commun de préparer et planifier leur itinéraire;
·         le Rapport de circulation de la Ville d'Ottawa – précise les fermetures de route, les restrictions en matière de circulation et les déviations à l’échelle de la ville;
·         la Carte de circulation interactive – indique les secteurs où ont lieu des travaux de construction et la liste des caméras vidéo de circulation de la ville;
